Professor Ijeoma Blessing Anumaka was appointed as the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic and Research at the University of Gitwe in July 2025. A distinguished academic with over three decades of progressive experience in higher education, Professor Anumaka brings to the University a deep commitment to academic excellence, institutional growth, and research innovation.

She holds a Doctor of Science (D.Sc.) in Management and Multidisciplinary Studies from the British American University, Florida, and a Ph.D. in Educational Management from Rivers State University of Science and Technology, Nigeria. Her expertise spans educational policy, institutional pedagogy, e-learning, curriculum development, and academic leadership.

Prior to her appointment at the University of Gitwe, Professor Anumaka served in various senior leadership roles at Kampala International University (KIU), Uganda, including as Professor of Educational Management, Academic Registrar/Director of Academic Affairs, Head of Department of Educational Foundations, and Chair of both the Doctoral and Curriculum Review Committees. She also held the role of Vice President (International) at British American University.

An accomplished researcher and prolific academic, Professor Anumaka has authored books and peer-reviewed publications on educational management, policy studies, and e-learning in international contexts. Her research has been published in leading academic journals, and she has presented at conferences across Africa and beyond.

She is a Fellow of several prestigious professional bodies, including the College of Teachers (UK), the Certified Business Management Professionals, and the British American University (USA). She is also an active member of the Association of Institutional Researchers (AIR), USA.

Professor Anumaka’s academic career has been recognized with numerous awards, including the Excellent International Leadership Award (2021 & 2022), the Best Female Nigerian Lecturer Award (2015), and the Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Nigeria.

In her role as Deputy Vice Chancellor, she is responsible for overseeing the University’s academic strategy, research policy, postgraduate education, and faculty development. She is committed to advancing the University of Gitwe’s vision of becoming a center of academic excellence and applied research with regional and global impact.

Her leadership is defined by integrity, inclusivity, and innovation—attributes she brings to bear in mentoring faculty, empowering students, and strengthening research and academic partnerships across borders.
